Pandora's box

The Sixties Scoop left innocent children with inside bruises. They didn't deserve this trauma, and they were supposed to have a peaceful life.

Here they come again

uninvited “guests”,

Take turn making my hair stand up,

making me shiver.

Then they blow even harder,

make me curl up like a boiled shrimp,

force my jaw to clench involuntarily.

I rub my hands together

I beg the “guests” to go away,

but they ignore my pleading.

I see my brothers and sisters,

some are talking, some are laughing.

We are having a meal together,

Holding our hands and praying,

thanking for the food and the reunion,

wishing for the Semaganis’s welfare.

I feel the cold of Cleo’s palm

I ask her if she is fine,

how weird she only smiles

and her hand is colder.

Then she lets go of my hand.

I open my eyes

and come back to where I am.

I keep looking

for my Pandora’s box.
